I got married a few months ago and Sally did my make-up for my two-day wedding. I would highly recommend her!

After having many trials with other make-up artists, I chose Sally because she was able to make my skin flawless, my makeup natural and at the same time accentuating my features and make me feel great. During my wedding, I had so many compliments and people asking me “who did my makeup?”

I never wear make-up on a daily basis and was worried I would look clownish and look like someone else. Sally was able to make me feel very comfortable and absolutely gorgeous. And the best thing of all is that the makeup lasted the entire day. So I barely had to touch up at all!

Plus, Sally is super nice and listens to your requests and works with you to achieve the look you want for your wedding day!

Eight Years and Counting

This is our eighth year being listed in the “best NYC wedding makeup artist” catagory in New York Magazine Weddings. The same issue also has featured one of my brides from 2008 (the lovely jewlery designer Rebecca Park) as well as my bride from last year at Oheaka Castle (Carla Schmitd & Mark Silk). Their story brought tears to my eyes – a very sweet read.

So I have to admit I’ve been doing a lot of digging though my old portfolio and paperwork (obviously it’s tax time) and I found this lovely press clipping that appears still very very relevant. It just goes to show that sophistication is always in style. No matter what garbage the TV networks are trying to force down our throats. As a girl that lives in New Jersey (though not a “Jersey Girl” – I grew up in Canada) I’m slightly offended by the bad rap this poor state is getting on the television! The hair! The makeup! The clothes! All ghastly, and come on…. I know it makes for good viewing but… seriously…..come on….stop it. No but seriously……stop.

OMG! Look what I found (me and Kevyn Aucoin :)

So I had been assisting Kevyn Aucoin for about a year by the time we got around to doing this column. If anyone remembers he had a monthly column with Allure Magazine and it would of course be a total lie if I said I wasn’t dying for him to use me. But I wouldn’t dare ask for such a thing (that’s the shy Canadian in me)! He did in fact get around to it – I remember the day vividly – we shot Nicole Kidman for the cover of Harper’s Bazaar. The photographer was the amazing Patrick Demarchelier and he made an offhand comment about how pretty he thought I was and how he wanted to take pictures of me. I was floored and totally embarrassed, I was just 20 years old and still trying to maneuver my way though this new world of high fashion. I’m pretty sure I did indeed turn bright red and Kevyn had a nice laugh at my expense.
He decided in the limo on the way home we would do a quick shoot for his column. Aside from my 20 year old chubby cheeks, I think it turned out pretty well. A little more makeup then I would normally wear but fun nonetheless. And how many of us mortal women can say we had our makeup done by such a makeup genius.

Inspiration Photos

I love looking at inspiration photos from my brides – I prefer red carpet as opposed to “bridal” – I certainly don’t define my work as “bridal” in any sense – but having pictures is a nice jumping off point. These photos are one part inspiration (loved Ivanka Trump’s wedding makeup) and one part translation (my bride didn’t want to go quite so dark on the eyes).

All and all it went well. She was thrilled, and I was happy to provide her a look she loved. Especially since she had had a bit of a disaster trial prior to us meeting.

I am so lucky to have gotten these photos. It’s so hard to get professional pictures from brides (which I totally understand) so I really really do appreciate when I get pictures at all, especially in under a month!

So our work was featured not once but three times this week – which I think is a strong testament to the kind of work we do.

Two of my lovely brides from this past fall had their weddings featured on Style Me Pretty (love that site)

and my awesome assoicate Nicole had her bride from last month featured in Borrowed & Bleu
