Seeing a look in a magazine or on Pinterest is one thing but you need to know your artist can recreate the makeup you want. You also want to be sure your artist can tailor that look to fit you - not every look you have your heart set on will translate, but a good artist will be able to tweak it so that it fits YOU.

2) Personality. Makeup artists come in all shapes and sizes and personalities and you need to be sure you can work with the one you choose. If your artist spends the whole trial telling you about their personal life and personal problems, chatting more than they work, its likely this isn’t what you want while having your makeup done on the big day. You want to be sure your artist is calm, collected and professional - nothing less will do when it comes down to the stress of the wedding day.

3)Timing. If your trial takes more than an hour to hammer out the first look (you should be given a choice between multiple looks including tweaks) this should be a huge red flag. It might just be you the bride getting ready day of, but it also could be a party of five or more. You need an experienced artist who can complete a look in under an hour for the bride and half an hour for each additional face. More than that and you are looking at hours upon hours of getting ready time and running the risk of being late to your own wedding. Experience and a quick hand are things you most definitely need to look out for.
